Last Thursday(February 26th) 22 students (high school and college), teachers, and community organizers embarked for DC to join the thousands of young people gathering for the Powershift conference. The majority of the students are seniors at Edison high school who are making history by working towards turning thier school into a pilot school for energy efficiancy and conservation as well as creating more green spaces like gardens and more parks in the community. Both the YLO and SWAT have teamed up to take on this task and hopefully become an example for may other schools in San Antonio.
The conference is focused mainly around young students who want to make a difference in the their environments. Included in the events is a huge lobby day. We will be meeting with the office of Congressmen Ciro Rodriguez and Charlie Gonzalez and presenting a letter that talks about greening our schools and communities as well as adding green jobs and energy conservation programs for San Antonio.
After 26 hours on the road we made it to DC on Friday night and joined the 11,000 people attending powershift.
